Condolence From: Roxanne Hartman
Condolence: I know it has been many months, but I just learned of the passing of Dr. Dahl. I became a patient of his several years ago when searching for a dentist, and once I did, I never looked back. He was truly one of a kind. He was a caring, gentle dentist, and one who never tried to perform any unnecessary procedures. He always tried to make the time spent in the dental chair as comfortable as possible. Dr. Dahl often shared stories of his family while cleaning my teeth or expertly fixing a tooth. It was always very clear to me how proud he was of all of you. It will not be possible to find a dentist like him again. I once joked with him that he wasn't allowed to retire. He just laughed, and kept doing his work. I, like everyone here who has written so beautifully about their fond memories of him, will miss him dearly. I know you are resting in peace, Dr. Dahl. And probably still sharing stories - this time with the Angels.

Condolence: This is such sad news.. Dr. Dahl was recommended to me as a great dentist for my children years ago... So I became a patient too.. I enjoyed his conversation... If he had patients cancel appointments - Dr. Dahl would drive down to the NIH and listen in on the latest technology and medicine. His office was simple and almost 1950's-ish - but his knowledge was like... 'just this morning'....... This is especially sad - he kept such good care of my teeth - I just turned 60 in April and was looking forward to sitting in his chair and him saying 'dang Rick - still good as new'....... He was a master at dentistry - yet - I believe the 'social interaction' was more important to him.. and ... he did it - not at a bar - but in the dentists office - the place that most mortals dread.... except Dr. Dahl's patients... It was a ritual to look forward to... He will be missed in ways too numerous to describe....... Hugs, Richard

Condolence: When the letter came in the mail today I was afraid to open it because I thought it might say Dr. Dahl was retiring. How very shocked I was to learn of his passing. I am still in shock. It doesn't seem possible. Dr. Dahl was truly one in a million--not only the most excellent dentist, but a truly fine human being. I know all of his patients are deeply grieving his passing and sending love and prayers to Dr. Dahl's family.

Condolence: Michelle Dahl's letter informing his patients of Barry's death was in my mailbox today. When I saw the return address on it I thought it was a reminder from Dr. Dahl that I should schedule an appointment. Oh how I wish that was so and oh how I wish I could. I feel like a much loved family member has died. What a shock. I was among the first of his patients when he opened his office in Century Plaza and I was so grateful to have found a truly kind, patient and caring dentist, and for more than four decades felt so fortunate to be his client. He was never in a 'mood', he was consistently cheerful and never rushed anyone out of the chair. He listened carefully, explained everything he did and never made anyone feel like they weren't worth his time and complete attention. He took good care of my whole family and especially my parents, even when they both were suffering from dementia and required a lot of patience. They don't make doctors like him anymore. He was one of those once-in-a-lifetime doctors. He is already sorely missed. I remember meeting him in the Food Lion one December and he was buying pounds of butter and nothing else. He just looked at the butter, then at me and smiled and said Michelle was making Christmas cookies. I recall him telling me about the multiple Christmas trees he would put up every year for his wife, and I would think to myself what a lucky woman she was. He'd tell me stories about his sons, and sailing to England on a Coast Guard cutter, gave me tree service and optometrist referrals, and would talk about all sorts of interesting subjects, all while I was sitting in the dental chair. He made it a treat to go to the dentist. A long time ago I told him that if he ever planned to retire to please let me know ahead of time because I would have to get dentures since I could never find a dentist like him again. I know I never will. My deepest sympathy to Michelle and his whole family. What a huge hole his passing has left in all your lives, and in the lives of all his patients who cherished him for the wonderful man he was.

Condolence: I just learned of Dr. Dahl's passing and words simply can't convey how sorry I am for your loss. He was much more than a dentist for me, he truly was someone I enjoyed seeing. His kindness, sense of humor, wonderful stories and generous spirit were always so much a part of his practice. I will forever be grateful for the dignity and patience shown to my father in his later years. I was blessed to have known him for so many years. Please know you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Sandra Meyerhoff

Condolence: No one will ever replace Dr. Barry Dahl. When I heard the news today I was deeply saddened. He was a very kind and caring man - one of a kind. I will often think of him as he made a great impression on me. He really cared for everyone and especially his family who he always told me stories about. He always spoke of Michelle and he recently mentioned Christmastime and how he put a tree in every room for her. He will be greatly missed and I will always remember him.
He spoke of all of his children often. A very special man.
Prayers and thoughts are with his entire family.
