Jeanne McKean (Pfeiffer)
Jeanne A. McKean (nee Pfeiffer), age 88, of Sykesville, MD, passed away, Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at the Dove House, an affiliate of Carroll Hospital. Born August 2, 1929, she was the widow of Thomas J. McKean (the love of her life) and the daughter of the late W. Albert Pfeiffer and Margaret Tober Pfeiffer. She lived the first half of her life in Catonsville and Arbutus and resided in Glenelg and Sykesville later in life. A graduate of Catonsville Senior High School (class of '46), she worked as a retail clerk at Hutzler’s, Woodward & Lothrop, and other stores, and served as a Christian missionary both at home and abroad, including a year in Russia.
Jeanne is survived by her son and caregiver, John McKean, of Sykesville; daughter Kathy McKean Silks of Harrisburg, PA; brother Bill Pfeiffer and wife Cheryl of Aston, PA; sisters Lisa Caulder and husband Mike of Brevard, NC, and Paula Tignall and husband Ray of Sykesville; and many friends from all stages of her life.
A woman of profound Christian faith, Jeanne had a passion for ministry with the Jewish people and teaching the Jewish roots of the Christian faith. She had a lifelong love of nature and animals and always enjoyed long car rides exploring Maryland’s beautiful countryside and gardens, with stops for ice cream and birdwatching.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2017, with visitation from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and the service at 2:30 p.m. at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA, 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd in Winfield, MD. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dove House (Carroll Hospice), 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD 21157, or Operation Exodus USA, PO Box 568, Lancaster, NY 14086.
