On Thursday, February 9, 2023, Andrew “Andy” Lunsel Shanholtz, 87, of Woodbine, MD peacefully passed away at home.
Andy is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Nancy Shanholtz, daughter and son-in-law Christine and Eric Porterfield, four grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren of Westminster, MD and sister Evelyn “Peg” Ours of Indiana. He was predeceased by his wife Jean and brothers Leo, Charles, and Robert “Bobby.”
Born March 12, 1935 in Three Churches, WV; Andy was the son of the late Jacob and Ethel Gonoe Shanholtz. Andy served six years in the United States Army Reserves.
Andy was the owner and operator of Andy’s Body Shop, at the top of Woodbine hill, for 35 years, from 1965 to 2000. He was well-known for his car painting and body work. In retirement, he enjoyed working on chain saws and other small engines. One of his most famous sayings was, “do the job right the first time and not half-assed.”
He shared his love for the outdoors with his family and friends. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. After he and Jean married, they bought land in VA to ensure family and friends would have a place to hunt together. As a fisherman, he enjoyed vacationing in Deep Creek, MD and was a member of the Maryland B.A.S.S Federation and formed the Maryland Bass Rustlers club. He was successful in fishing tournaments in Deep Creek Lake and the Potomac River.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, from 2- 4 and 6 – 8 pm, at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A. 1212 W. Old Liberty Road Sykesville, MD 21784 (beside South Carroll High School). Military Honors at 7:30 PM A memorial service will be held this summer in Virginia.
