Ann Hidey, 89, passed away peacefully at her home in Westminster on February 23, 2017. Born on September 8, 1927, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She met Walter, her darling redhead while she was a customer on his produce route. She would wave her handkerchief and yell “you whooo” and immediately duck behind her porch banister. Walter turned the young city girl into a country girl who helped run the family farm. Ann & Walt moved to Westminster in 1990 and built their dream home, which became Hidey View Farm. Ann was a certified psychiatric aide and worked at Gunnery Hospital, where she retired to take care of her beloved grandchildren. She was an avid gardener, sewer, embroiderer, painter, cook, baker, canner, and made everything from scratch. Ann also loved to travel and organized famous bus trips both domestic and abroad. She loved to sing and had the most beautiful voice that filled every room she went in with love and joy. Her favorite activity was sitting in her window or in her swing, where she would watch her birds and watch her husband work out in the fields. Above all, Ann invested herself and loved her husband, her children, her grandchildren, her friends and her family. With her jovial and exuberant spirit, Ann loved unconditionally and nurtured the best in her family.
She joins the lord, as well as her husband of 63 years John Walter Hidey Sr., her daughter Judy, and her son Rodney. She is survived by her children, Jane, Nancy, John Jr., and Robin and her grandchildren, Rachel and Chris, Ryan and David, John III, Olivia, Neil, and Gabriel.
A celebration of Ann’s life will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at her home, 3130 Ridge Rd, Westminster, MD from 1:00-3:00pm with services at 2:00pm.
Memorial Donations can be made to the Dove House/Carroll Hospice at 292 Stoner Ave. Westminster, MD 21157.
