Annabelle Thompson Bales, 87, formerly of Baltimore, MD passed peacefully on Saturday, February 13, 2016, at the Village at Cross Keys Brethren Home surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife of Nathan Bales for 48 years who died in 2008.

Annabelle was born on May 27, 1928 at the family home on Lime Plant Road in Frederick County, MD the second daughter of the late Freeman Thompson and the late Lillian Thompson and grew up on a farm in Taylorsville, MD.

Annabelle left home at the age of 17 after graduating from Mt. Airy High School to work for the Social Security Administration in Baltimore, MD. After marrying in 1960 she lived with her husband in Fort Lauderdale, FL where she had two children. After several years they moved to Rosedale, Baltimore County, MD where she raised her children and where she lived until she moved to Hanover, PA in 2003. During her years in Baltimore she attended the Faith and Saint Mark’s United Church of Christ, worked until she retired, raised her children and enjoyed the arrival of her grandchildren. She loved trips to Ocean City and loved sitting in the sun on the beach. She also enjoyed sewing and was a wonderful cook who loved to prepare meals for her family. Her favorite role was being a mother and grandmother and was dearly loved by her family and friends.

Annabelle is survived by her children Dana Roe of Hanover, Jeffrey Bales of Union Bridge, MD and his wife Barbara, her loving grandchildren Daniel and Victoria Roe of Hanover, Ethan Bales and his wife Kendra of Hanover, Kyle, Olivia and Garrett Bales of Grand Island, FL, and four great grandchildren, sister Martha Ewell of Clearwater, FL, brother William and his wife Jackie of Hampstead, MD, and sister Fay Fields of Mt. Airy, MD. She was preceded in death by her sisters Betty Welsh, Elsie Stanton and Brenda Sharer and grandson Nathan Victor Roe.

Friends may call at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home, 1212 Old Liberty Road, Winfield, MD 21784 (beside S. Carroll High)., on Tuesday, February 16th 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM where a funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 17, 2016 11 AM.
