Ardyce Delores (nee Hagen) Stevens, 101, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 6, 2025.
She was born on January 26, 1924, in Clinton, Minnesota to Carl and Bertha Hagen. She had six brothers and two sisters. After finishing high school in Clinton, she attended business college for 2 years in Minneapolis, MN.
During World War II, Ardyce moved from Clinton to live with her sister in Portland, Oregon. It was there that she met William “Bill” Stevens who at that time was in the United States Navy and stationed in Portland. After a whirlwind courtship they married in July 1945 and were happily married for 69 years until his death in 2014.
Following the war, Bill left the service, and the couple moved to Rockville, MD, where they raised their three children, William, Ardyce and Jon. During her married life, Ardyce worked as a secretary for several organizations, including Vitro Laboratories, the Montgomery County Juvenile Court, and the Food and Drug Administration.
Ardyce enjoyed gardening, sewing, traveling, and discussing politics and history. She was a life-long Christian and served in the church nursery, the women’s social ministry and the church choir.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Ardyce and Lynn Bierly. Her three grandchildren, Jimmy Burroughs (Lauren), Lauren Bierly, and Allison Bierly Stovall (Greg); and four great-grandchildren Trent and Breanne Burroughs, and Abigail and Evelyn Stovall.
Ardyce’s memorial service will be held at the Mt. Airy Presbyterian Church 17455 Old Frederick Road, Mt. Airy, MD on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 1:00 PM.
