Arthur “Otts” Gordon Sachs, 86 of Sykesville, MD passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2023, at
BridgingLife Dove House in Westminster, MD.
He was the beloved husband of Shirley Sachs (nee Feurer) for 66 years.
Otts (Arthur) was born August 8, 1937, in Westport, Baltimore City, MD, the son of the late Andrew
Sachs, the late Nelson Moeller (stepfather), and the late Emma Moeller (nee Murphy).
He was employed for 39 years at Baltimore Gas and Electric. For the first 10 of those years, he was a
gas pipe fitter, while also serving 2 years in the U.S. Army and 4 years in Navy Reserve, specializing in submarines. At BGE he then moved on to become an Industrial and Commercial Representative. He received a certificate in Industrial Supervision and Management in 1969, and a Bachelor of Science degree in
1972, both from Johns Hopkins University, the result of rigorously and torturously pressing on through 8
years of evening college, while simultaneously working full-time during the day.
Otts enjoyed spending time with his wife Shirley and son David, doing things with friends and relatives, his employment at BGE, deer hunting, fishing, eating, camping, swimming, golfing, bowling, horseshoes, bocce, cards, and pro football (in the mid ‘50s, at 18 years of age he played in a neighborhood football league titled “Unlimited." Unlimited meant no age requirement or limit and consisted of playing tackle football on a concrete or asphalt parking lot with 30 year old men wearing no pads or helmet). He also enjoyed World War II history, listening to John Phillip Sousa, and growing, eating, and giving away vegetables and herbs that he and Shirley grew in their large vegetable garden beginning in the 1960s and continuously grew every year until ending circa 2019-2020. He had a great sense of humor, was a fun, personable, very upbeat, considerate, compassionate, intelligent, understanding, positive man and human being; disliked REAL racism, treated people with respect, was always concerned for the wellbeing of others, and rooted for, took up for, and spoke up for the underdog. He could also be frightfully serious; but was always reasonable, honorable, just and true.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are son, David Sachs, brother, Nelson Moeller, and brother, Leonard
Sachs.
The services at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A. 1212 West Old Liberty Road Winfield,
