Barbara B. Thompson, 89, lifelong resident of Howard County Maryland, passed away on June 14 at Frederick Health Hospital.
Born December 30, 1931 in Clarksville she was the daughter of the late James J. and Rose C. Blaney. Barbara was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Calvin Thompson and brothers Jerome Blaney, Jr and his wife Shirley Blaney; Charles Blaney and brother-in-law Marvin Cottrell.
She is survived by four children, Janice McCoy, Linda Raines and husband Danny, David Thompson and wife Christine, Jim Thompson, Sr., and wife Kathy; seven grandchildren, Christopher Raines and wife Kaitlin, Shaun McCoy and wife Maureen, Jimmy Thompson, Jr. and wife Shannon, Kyle Raines and wife Emily, Daniel Thompson and wife Erica, Nick Thompson and wife Erin and Hannah Thompson Gray and husband Matthew; and twelve great grandchildren. In addition to those above she is survived by a sister Charlotte Cottrell and sister-in-law Sharon Blaney.
Barbara attended St. Louis School in Clarksville for eight years and graduated from Clarksville High School in 1949. She worked at the News Leader office as a bookkeeper in Laurel, MD. She married Calvin Thompson in November 1954 and became a stay-at- home mom after the birth of her first daughter in November 1955. Once her youngest child was in school Barbara went to work at Citizen’s National Bank in Clarksville from where she retired. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and family.
She was a lifetime member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Clarksville.
Barbara was a member of the Howard County Farm Bureau, Fifth District Discussion Group and the Clarksville Seniors.
The family will accept visitors between the hours of 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM on Sunday, June 27, 2021 at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A. 1212 West Old Liberty Road Winfield, MD 21784.
A Catholic Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Louis Catholic Church, 12500 Clarksville Pike, Clarksville MD 21029 on Monday, June 28, 2021 at 11 AM.
