Barbara Uzella Wroten (Zeddie), age 98, passed away Saturday, September 1, 2018 at North Arundel Health & Rehab in Glen Burnie, MD.
She was the wife of Samuel E. Wroten, her husband of 66 years before passing in 2015. Surviving are her daughters Barbara Cox (Dave) and Judith Pratt (Dave), grandchildren Matthew Cox (Colleen), Christine Overstreet (Rob), David Pratt and Brian Pratt (Kristin). She is also survived by 7 great grandchildren, Shaun & Daniel Cox, Gage & Koby Overstreet, Nathan McPherson and Maia & Evelyn Pratt.
Born September 27, 1919, she was the daughter of Lester Andrew and Mamie Uzella Jackson (Rigler). Barbara was the eldest of five children and is survived by one sister, Virginia Louise Sheckells of Georgia. She was preceded in death by her other siblings Nellie Griffith, Lester Jackson and Audrey Shappell.
She attended school in Anne Arundel County and though she admittedly didn’t like school, she was immensely proud of the educational achievements of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an active member of Brooklyn Heights United Methodist Church and very active in the Salvation Army Food Ministry while there. Most recently she was a member of Lisbon United Methodist Church.
Zeddie was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She thoroughly enjoyed trips with her grandchildren and often took them to Ocean City and amusement parks. She was an avid homemaker and loved nothing better than cleaning-not only her own home but also those of her daughters as well. Her home-made baked beans and cole slaw were always present at family gatherings.
In earlier years, she was employed by Montgomery Wards, Hutzlers and Tuerkes. She loved country music especially Bill Gaither and was thrilled to see them just a few years back at the Frederick Fair. She traveled extensively with her husband around the county and especially enjoyed her trip to the republic of Panama to visit her daughter, Judy and son-in-law while he was in the military. Summer vacations with her daughter Barbara and the whole Cox Clan at Westmoreland State Park were very special. Walking along the beach and collecting sharks teeth created special memories.
