Billy (Bill) David Norwood, 84 of Mt. Airy, Maryland and Old Greenbelt, Maryland
Passed Thursday, November 7, 2024, with family and his cat by his side, at home in Old Greenbelt
He was the former husband of Anna Maria Cristina (Chrystalle) DeLuca of Sarasota, Florida (10/4/1937-9/12/2015), the mother of his two adult children, and a classical concert pianist. They met in Russian Immersion class at Indiana University Bloomington.
Born September 22, 1940, the son of the late William and Inez (Pickett) Norwood
Mr. Norwood was retired from the University of Maryland Physics Lab at College Park where he worked for 50 years.
He was a veteran of the US Air Force, serving during “The Cold War” as a Russian Translator stationed in Turkey. Bill was a member of Mowatt Memorial United Methodist Church in Greenbelt, Maryland.
Surviving him are his adult children Jennifer (Jenna/osha) Ruth Norwood of Washington, DC, son Eric Todd Sherman Norwood of Old Greenbelt, Maryland, two sisters, Martha Norwood and Irene Norwood of Frederick, Maryland, residing at MedSource Community Services, many nieces and nephews, and his cat, Ms. Cat.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral services on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, 12 noon at BURRIER-QUEEN FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd. Sykesville, Maryland (beside S. Carroll High School) with Pastor Evelyn Romers of Mowatt Memorial United Methodist Church in Greenbelt, Maryland officiating. Interment Mt. Olive Cemetery, Mt. Airy, Maryland. Those desiring may contribute to the Norwood Family Fund to help with costs and the furthering of physics education through video demonstrations shared on free, global platforms.
