Carl Shaffer

Carl Edward Shaffer, age 85, of Taylorsville , MD died Saturday September 1, 2007 at Lorien Skilled Nursing Rehabilitation Center in Mt. Airy , MD. He was born May 22, 1922 , in York , PA ; he was the son of the late Karl A. and Pauline Shaffer. He was the husband of the late Jacqueline Elaine Markel Shaffer, his wife of more than 40 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Following the war, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the Wharton School of Finance. He was employed by Thiokal Corporation in Elkton, MD for over 30 years in their aerospace components division. He was a member of the American Legion Mt. Airy Gold Post #191. He lived with his son and daughter-in-law, David and Susan Shaffer, for almost twenty years. An avid gardener, he spent countless hours improving and maintaining the family property in Taylorsville , MD. He also enjoyed professional sports and spending time with his grandchildren. Surviving him are his sister and brother-in-law Arlene and Charlie Witmer of York , PA and brother Barry Shaffer in Tennessee , his son and daughter-in-law David and Susan and grandchildren Skyler, Briana and Shelby. He was predeceased by his wife Jackie, and sister Jean Little. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday September 5, 2007 at 6:00 PM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA 1212 W. Old Liberty Road , Winfield (Beside South Carroll High School) with the Pastor Roger Rinker of Calvary Lutheran Church in Mt. Airy officiating. Graveside funeral service will be held Thursday September 6, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Shaffer’s Union Cemetery , Codorus Township , Seven Valleys , PA. The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 PM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home Crematory, PA on Wednesday September 5, 2007 . Memorial contributions can be made to your favorite charity.
