Catherine McDonald, 70, of Eldersburg, MD, passed away on Friday, February 21, 2025.
She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who touched many lives with her strength, kindness, and dedication. Catherine proudly served in the U.S. Army as a Military Police Officer in Panama and was one of the Army’s first female attack dog handlers. After her military service, she earned multiple degrees in Computer Science and Communications and became a certified Department of Defense Chief Information Officer. She dedicated her career to serving various Army and Navy agencies in Maryland and Germany.
Catherine and her husband, Jim, recently celebrated 40 years of marriage. She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Joan Newby, and her son, Robert Hancock. She is survived by her loving husband, Jim McDonald; her son, Brian Hancock, along with his wife, Tami, and their daughter, Quinn; her daughter, Patricia Werner, and her husband, Evan; her sister, Ann Williams; her sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Scott Horstkamp; her brother, Michael Newby; and her brother-in-law, John Figuracion.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Elders Baptist Church, 1216 Liberty Road, Eldersburg, MD.
In lieu of flowers, in honor of Catherine’s wishes, donations may be made to the Elders Baptist Women’s Ministry.
