Charles J. Doyle, Sr., 88 of Sykesville, MD died on Wednesday, June 30th, 2021, at Golden Crest Assisted Living after an extended battle with colon cancer.
He was born April 11th, 1933, at Mercy Hospital in Baltimore, MD. Charlie was the son of the late Frances Frankenhoff Doyle and the late James Doyle III. He attended Milford Mill High School and the Maryland School of Arts. He was an Army Veteran who served in the 82nd Airborne Medical Unit (stateside) during the Korean War.
As a young man, Charlie worked at Stieff’s Silver in Baltimore where he was a pewter & silver spinner. Later in life he began a self-employed career in construction, which he continued to his retirement.
He is survived by sons Charles Chuck J. Doyle, Jr. and wife Susan of Westminster, Terry W. Doyle of Finksburg, and daughters Ann Marie Brummet of Dundalk and Kathy Boone and husband Donny of Westminster, 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and a nephew.
He is survived by brothers James (Jim) Doyle IV of Finksburg, William (Bill) Doyle and wife Patricia of Union Bridge, Thomas (Tom) E. Doyle and wife Margaret of Oakland and devoted friend Carol Marshall of Wildersville, TN.
In addition to his parents, Charlie was predeceased by sisters-in-law Sue Doyle and Carolyn Doyle, son-in-law Dillard Brummet, a niece, and several great-nephews.
Charlie enjoyed collecting and rehabbing military vehicles. He took patriotic pride in driving his historic “Mash 4077 Military Ambulance” in local parades.
He had two vintage Mercedes that he loved to drive. Charlie referred to these as his “Black Limousine” and his “Gray Ghost.”
He enjoyed listening to Country and Bluegrass music. Charlie was the Namesake/Honoree at the “Charlie & friends” Bluegrass Show held at the Forest & Stream Club in Keymar.
On Thursdays (a long-standing Doyle family tradition) Charlie would meet his brothers and sons for lunch at a local restaurant.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 3, 2021, from 10 -11 AM at which time the Memorial Service will begin at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A. 1212 W. Old Liberty Road Winfield. MD 21784 (Beside South Carroll High School.)
Interment at Holy Family Catholic Cemetery in Randallstown will be Private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Charlie’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society 405 Williams Court, Suite 120 Baltimore, MD 21220.
