Charlotte Phipps Martin, 78, passed away on June 12, 2024, at Gilchrist of Howard County, MD. Born in Denver, CO, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Howard Phipps, Jr. and Charlotte Behning Phipps. She was preceded in death by her dearly loved grandson Ryan Scott Krempa.
Charlotte is survived by her loving husband Andrew Martin III. She is also survived by four children: Charlotte Krempa and husband Scott, Tammy Ferris and husband Mark, Andrew Martin IV and wife April, Melissa Craumer and husband Robert; three siblings: Ruth Elseroad, Linda Peer, and Denise Phipps. She cherished her grandchildren Caitlin, Carly and Jacob Krempa; Tyler Martin and Brandon Ferris; Andrew Martin V and Ashlyn Martin; and Brooke Craumer.
Charlotte met her husband Andy in college at the University of Maryland where he played football and, as she would say, to get her M.R.S. degree. Charlotte and Andy married in June 1966 and traveled to Okinawa for Andy’s military assignment where they had their first daughter Charlotte. Their first home was in Beltsville, MD until they found their forever home in Dayton, MD which is still the family home. Charlotte was a stay-at-home mom and very active in her kid’s activities including girl scouts, sports, dance, and horses. As the kids got older, Charlotte started her aerobics and physical fitness business lasting many years in Howard County. She then went on to work at Brown and Associates, URS, and doing bookkeeping for her church. Charlotte enjoyed traveling, golfing, kayaking at Lake Anna, softball, gardening, bird watching, and needlepoint but mostly spending time with her family!
