Dave Cunningham passed away peacefully on March 26, 2024, surrounded by family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was 73 years old.
Born on December 15, 1950 to Harry and Marie Cunningham in Baltimore, Maryland, Dave grew up with his three sisters in Sykesville, Maryland and lived in the surrounding area until his passing. He enjoyed sports as a child but it was during his teenage years that he found his passion for cars and developed his skills for wrenching and painting, including a 1935 Ford rumble-seat roadster that he restored with his father. Soon after graduating from South Carroll High School, Dave married Pam Cunningham (nee Livesay) with whom he welcomed two sons, Brian (1972) and Michael (1974). He had a long and successful career as a Sales Manager in the automotive finishes industry during which he developed many friendships and a deep professional network.
Dave was always at the ready to help others. He was a loving and proud father, coaching baseball teams for both of his sons through their high school years and working side jobs as a sought-after custom car painter to spoil his sons and family. Like his father, he restored a car, a 1969 Chevelle Super Sport, with his son, Brian, that received several regional and national awards. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family, wrenching on cars and going to car shows and cruises, hanging out at breweries and wineries, sharing laughs and stories, and doting on his beloved dogs. He will be missed by many.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his twin-sister Belinda Finn and brother-in-law Bob Finn; sister Pam Wood and brother-in-law John Wood; sister Ann Thomas and brother-in-law Mike Thomas; sons Brian and Mike Cunningham; grandson Blake Cunningham; stepchildren Gabriella, Michele, and Edward “EJ” Taylor; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of services, a future gathering will be held to celebrate Dave’s life.
