Dolores Helena “Dolly” Miller, nee Preller, formerly of Catonsville, MD, died Wednesday, July 11, 2024 at Friends House Nursing Home in Olney, MD.

Dolly was born March 28, 1929 in Baltimore, Maryland, the daughter of the late Benjamin Preller and the late Helen Preller (nee Wieprecht). She was the youngest of four children who all predeceased her: Margaret Bartha, Lawrence Preller, and Charles Preller.

Dolly graduated from Catholic High School in Baltimore, MD. She worked in a jewelry store prior to marrying the love of her life, Michael Raymond Miller in 1951. Their love affair flourished until 2007, when Mike passed, soon after celebrating their 56th wedding anniversary.

Dolly is the mother of 5 wonderful children: Helen Russell (husband Stephen), the late Michael Miller (wife Paula), Stephen Miller (wife Gemma), Susan Sparrow (husband Ralph), and daughter Janet Ingels (husband John).

Dolly was the devoted grandmother of 9 grandchildren: Mary, Elizabeth, Catherine, Michael, Nicholas, Matthew, Jaclyn, Jeffrey, and James; and was adored by her 7 great grandchildren: Sarah, Matthew, Christian, Olivia, Michael, Carter, and Tyson. Always a child at heart, she delighted in visits from the all of the children and loved to make them chocolate milk shakes, play games and even hide and seek.

Dolly hosted all of the holiday and other celebrations at her house in Catonsville and decorated for each and every one of them. She prided herself in preparing Thanksgiving dinner for the entire family well into her early 90’s. She had loads of Hallmark musical toys for every occasion. She loved seeing the children’s eyes light up when she wound up her array of musical collectibles: ferris wheels, carousels and roller coasters, each with its signature tune.

The entire neighborhood knew her well and she was famous for her homemade chocolate candies. She had literally hundreds of candy molds and loved taking candy making and baking classes.

Dolly and Mike were avid Orioles fans, season ticket holders in thick and thin. Their O’s friends in neighboring boxes looked forward to the game snacks that Dolly would bring.

Dolly and Mike were lifelong parishioners of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Catonsville, keeping active with their neighborhood prayer group for many years. Later, Dolly kept up with many fast friends in the parish.
