Doris Pauline Smith was born on June 13, 1915 to Melchoir and Mary Mae Weidman in Baltimore, MD. She attended school in Baltimore. Her career started when she studied cosmetology. Her daughter Joy Upton Hands was born on December 25th. She moved to New York City and married her husband Nils Nilsen a seaman in the Norwegian merchant marines and had her second child Nils Nilsen, Jr. After moving back to Maryland, She had a third child Fred. She moved to Pasadena, Maryland and raised her 3 children. Doris always placed her family first. She took up selling Avon door to door for many years. She loved boating and all actives around the water. All her grandchildren called her Dee Dee. She always remembered birthdays and ages of grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had 3 children, 12 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren. Her pass times included flower gardens and growing African violets. After her divorce from Nils. She was introduced to Stanley Smith, who was a wonderful man. They married and enjoyed many years together. Their interest included flea markets and traveling. They moved to Florida and enjoyed many years in Florida. Stanley and Doris owned a boat together and he named the boat Dee Dee, which they spent many hours having fun aboard. After Stanley passed Doris returned to Maryland and lived with Joy and Kenneth Hands. She wanted more activities and moved to Lorien Assisted living. She keep very busy in all activities. When she was 95 years old when she was in a senior walking contest. She won the contest by walking 421 miles in the hallways in their Olympic contest. She was 20 years older than the next contestant. She always enjoyed life and never complained about anything. Even in her later years she always had her hair done and took pride in herself. She always attended sing along on Thursday evenings and enjoyed the fellowship. She always had a faith in God and he blessed us with many years of her company. She will always be remembered and kept in our thoughts; she now is in heaven with her first grandson Allen Hands Her oldest son Nils, and her daughter Joy who passed away. She will be with Stanley Smith and all the rest of her family. Our family will cherish times spent with her as they were always full of smiles and laughter.
