Doris Walkling Wagner, age 86, of Carroll County, Maryland, died Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at Johns Hopkins Bay View Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. She was born February 16, 1926 in Gamber, MD the daughter of the late John Earl Walkling and the late Pearl Elizabeth Walkling. She was an accomplished artist and published poet. She enjoyed horseback riding and fox hunting, loved her flowers, feeding and watching the birds and was a master scrabble and crossword player. She also enjoyed bridge, bingo and an occasional visit to Charlestown to play the slots. She was the President of the Humane Society of Carroll County from 1993-2004. Mrs. Wagner attended the Catonsville Elementary School and Catonsville Senior High School. She also proudly graduated from the former St. Agnes Hospital School of Nursing in 1946. Her accomplishments were many and include being instrumental in the design and planning of the 1st adult day care center in Carroll County that opened in November 1992. She was later employed with Experience Works as a field operations assistant and later as an assistant project director with the Family & Children's Services of Central Maryland. In both roles she assisted senior citizens of Carroll County in seeking gainful employment. She was the wife of the late G. Everett “Pud” Wagner. She was the mother of Ellen Weetenkamp, Jane McGrath, Ann Macin, Kevin McGrath, Mary Storch, Timothy and Thomas McGrath, and Brigid Shifflett. Sister of Anita W. Happel. Also survived by 11 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and many nieces and nephews, she was predeceased by one great granddaughter. Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at 11 am at St. Bartholomew R.C. Church, 2930 Hanover Pike, Manchester, MD with the Fr. Michael J. Roach officiating. Private inurnment. Memorial Contributions can be made to the Humane Society of Carroll County, 2517 Littlestown Pike, Westminster, MD 21158.
