Emma Jean Merson (nee Johnson), age 85, of Mount Airy, MD; passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Brightview Westminster Ridge in Westminster, MD.
She was Born August 31, 1938, in Baltimore, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Elijah Johnson and late Eva Skipper Johnson.
She was the wife of the late Joseph Edward Merson of 63 years.
Survived by her daughters: Donna J. Mellin of Mount Airy and Debbie L. Cavey of Sykesville; sister of the late Bertha Molesworth; grandchildren: Shane Mellin and wife Jordan, Warren Mellin and wife Bridgette, Ryan Cavey and Jenny Cavey; and great-grandchildren: Dylan, Abby and Charlie; and many nieces and nephews.
She was an Administrative Secretary for Howard County Public Schools for 25 years; her retirement present from her husband was a John Deere Riding Tractor, which they worked long time together cutting grass with their lawn business; also they worked together part time at Kendall’s Hardware Store in Clarksville. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Mt. Airy and she was a Volunteer at the Mt. Airy Senior Center.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8pm on Thursday May 2, 2024 at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA., 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Sykesville, MD 21784 (Beside South Carroll High School) and on Friday, May 3, 2024 at the church from 10:00 AM-11:00 AM.
A Funeral service will be held on Friday, May 3, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Calvary Lutheran Church, 16151 Old Frederick Road, Mt. Airy, MD 21771; followed immediately after funeral service there will be a reception at the church.
A graveside service will be held after the reception at 2:00 pm at Mt. Zion U.M. Church Cemetery, 12430 Scaggsville Road and Browns Bridge Road, Highland.
