Evelyn Virginia Leight Churn, 101, of Westminster died on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at Carroll Lutheran Village. She was the beloved spouse of the late Floyd W. Churn.
Mrs. Churn was born April 9, 1915 in Emory, Carroll County, MD, the daughter of the late Claude Eugene Leight and the late Etta Emma Myers Leight. She was a 1931 graduate of Franklin High, and attended Western MD College from 1931-1933.
Mrs. Churn loved music and played the piano since she was 8 years old. She played in dance bands, for church services, parties, and for her and everyone else’s pleasure and enjoyment.
Mrs. Churn’s employment history includes working in the Delivery Department at Montgomery Wards in Baltimore, a teller at First National Bank in Baltimore and accounting clerk for Malco Plastics in Owings Mills where she retired from in 1977.
She was also a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Woodlawn Chapter #101, and University Baptist Church in Baltimore, MD.
Surviving are her children and their spouses: Floyd W. Churn Jr. (Janet) of Sarasota, FL; Dorothy C. LaPenta (Michael) of Annapolis, MD; Theodore E. Churn (Moffett) of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren Stephanie Lubow, Nancy McNeally (Patrick), Marie McHenry (Rob), Kathleen Long (Chris), Jenna Teddy, Katie Cashin (Marc), Todd Churn (Hannah); 10 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Monday, February 6, 2017 from 9:30 to 11 AM in Krug Chapel at Carroll Lutheran Village, 300 St. Luke Circle, Westminster, MD 21158. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM in Krug Chapel. A light luncheon will follow, and then interment at Woodlawn Cemetery.
