George R. Brown, Jr., 82, of Westminster, passed away July 13, 2017 at Copper Ridge. Born in Mount Airy on January 7, 1935, he was the son of the late George R. Brown and Laura (Poole) Chaney. He was the husband of 52 years of Ruth Ann (Runkles) Brown.
He was a 1955 graduate of Mount Airy High School. While in high school, he joined the Maryland National Guard where he served as a cook until his discharge in 1962. He was employed as a cable splicer for the telephone company for over 37 years. He enjoyed spending time at his property in West Virginia.
He is survived by daughter Laura Cleveland and husband Michael of Mount Airy, son Bradley G. Brown and wife Linda of Westminster, grandchildren Karly, Rachel, and Benjamin; an aunt Catherine Chaney of Frederick, a number of nieces and nephews, and several cousins. He was predeceased by brothers Robert and Donald and stepfather J. Edward Chaney, Jr.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, July 22nd, with visitation 2-3 p.m., a service at 3 p.m. and fellowship following the service. All will be held at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, 1212 West Old Liberty Road, Winfield, Maryland.
Private burial services will be held at a later date at Prospect Cemetery, Inc., Woodville Road, Mount Airy, MD 21771
