In Loving Memory of George Jelev Chobanoff
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of George Jelev Chobanoff, a beloved husband and cherished father and grandfather, who left this world peacefully on January 30, 2025, at the age of 80. He was surrounded by family in his final moments and departed with the same quiet strength that defined his life.
Born on June 25, 1944, in Kumanovo (present-day North Macedonia), George was raised in Bulgaria. In 1984, he immigrated to the United States, where he built a life rooted in hard work and perseverance.
George spent his career as an electrician and also worked for Carroll County Public Schools, earning the respect of colleagues and friends alike for his reliability and dedication. Beyond his profession, he had a deep passion for craftsmanship—whether he was constructing, repairing, or creating, he found immense joy in working with his hands.
Throughout his life, George shared meaningful relationships. He was married to his first wife, the late Penka V. Tchobanova, with whom he built a family and shared many years. Later, he married Vasilka Milanova Chobanoff, with whom he spent his later years. Through this union, he also shared a bond with his stepson, Rosen, and valued the family they created together. As a father to his daughters, Daniela and Anna Maria, he was a guide and a source of wisdom. His five grandchildren and one great-grandson brought immeasurable light to his life, and he delighted in teaching them the Bulgarian language as well as sharing stories, hobbies, and quiet moments with them.
George lived with passion and purpose. A lover of nature and animals, he found beauty in the world around him, from hiking and exploring nature with his grandkids to capturing it through his photography. He participated in photography clubs over the years, where his talent was recognized with awards. Whether through his stunning photographs, handcrafted creations, or the time he devoted to guiding and teaching the next generation, he approached life with a deep sense of curiosity and generosity.
George is survived by his brother, Ivan, with whom he shared a lifelong connection. He leaves behind a legacy of resilience, devotion, and an unshakable belief in the power of faith and family. His presence will be deeply missed, but his love and wisdom will live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, March 2, 2025 12:30 to 2:30 PM in The Queen Multi-Purpose room at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory , 1212 West Old Liberty Rd.
