Geraldine VanSant Hyatt, 92 of Severna Park, MD, died unexpectedly, Saturday April 2, 2016 at Heartlands Assisted Living, Severna Park, MD. She was the spouse of the late Clifford B. Hyatt of Severna Park. Geraldine was born November 10, 1923 in Frederick, MD, the daughter of the late James R VanSant and the late Bessie G Roderick VanSant of Mt. Airy, MD. Geraldine (Girlie) grew up on the family dairy farm in Mt. Airy and was a member of the Prospect United Methodist Church during her childhood. She attended and graduated with the 1941 class of Mt. Airy High School. Following high school, Geraldine worked for the US Weather Bureau in Washington DC and was married to Clifford in August 1942. In 1957 Geraldine and Clifford settled in Severna Park. Geraldine is a member of Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church in Severna Park. She was a member of the Wally Byam (Airstream) Club, Mid-Atlantic Unit, and with her husband traveled throughout the United States, including a summer long trip to Alaska and back. Geraldine was a wonderful homemaker and good cook and enjoyed having family dinners on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter and enjoyed seeing her grand children and great grandchildren a lot. She was known to her grand and great grandchildren as MomMom. During her later years she also enjoyed playing dominoes and cards, especially rummy, with family and friends. She is survived by her three children, Barbara H DePew of Crownsville, MD, James C Hyatt and wife Carolyn of Walkersville, MD, and Gregory B Hyatt and wife Christine of Pasadena, MD. She is also survived by grandchildren Christopher M Knotts and wife Mary of Wye Mills MD, Cleveland B Hyatt and wife Meredith of Severna Park, Emily S Hyatt and Suzanne B Hyatt of Severna Park, Pamela J Hyatt of Stevensville, MD, and Jeffery B Hyatt of Pasadena. Her great grandchildren include Brandon C Knotts, Grace N Knotts, Elizabeth A Knotts and Valerie M Knotts of Wye Mills; Autumn T Baldwin and Julia A Tringali of Stevensville, and William C Hyatt of Severna Park. She was preceded in death by her sister Eleanor Ferraro, Willard VanSant, and Rebecca Ward. The family will receive friends on Thursday April 7, 2016 from 10 to 11 AM at Prospect United Methodist Church, 5923 Woodville Rd. Mt Airy, 21771 where funeral services will take place at 11AM with the Rev. Earl E, Mason officiating. Interment will be in Prospect Cemetery.
