Gertrude Louise (Richards) Decker, age 98, “Bee” to her friends and family, born October 7, 1914, in E. Orange, N.J., passed away peacefully on Saturday March 23, 2013 at her daughter’s home in Woodstock, Maryland. Bee was the daughter of the late Gertrude (Price) & Thomas C. Richards of East Orange, N.J. She was predeceased in 1992 by her husband of 52 years, William E. Decker of Newark, New Jersey
Bee is survived by her four children, Deborah Thomas of Woodstock, Maryland; David M Decker (Sandy Hartman) of Pa., Katherine Pelham (Roger H.) of Ballston Lake, N.Y., William R. “Rick” Decker (Eileen Mary Peppard) of Flemington, N.J. Bee took great joy in her eight grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
The Decker’s were formerly of Basking Ridge, N.J. where they raised their family. Bee was active in both civic and church affairs. She was a retired school teacher and Director of Christian Education at St. Bernards Church, Bernardsville, N.J. where she also served on the Vestry for 8 years. She was Director of Christian Education for St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Morristown, N.J. and a delegate to the World Conference of Christian Youth. She also served on President Eisenhower’s Committee for Youth. Bee always had a ready smile and kind word for anyone she met.
Upon retiring to Conway, South Carolina, Bee was an active member of Quail Creek Golf Course and past president of the Quail Creek Property Owners Association, Conway, S.C. Bee relocated to Lake Wylie, S.C. where she lived with her son, David and daughter-in-law, Sandy for several years before residing with her daughter, Deborah in Maryland.
A private memorial service and interment will take place.
