She was the spouse of the late William Carl Sawyer, a US Army AirCorp Staff Sgt. who was killed in Combat 1944 during WWII. Born June 19, 1924 in Chase City, VA the daughter of the late William R and Edris Jennings Johnson. She was a Homemaker.

Grandchildren Rebecca and Husband Matt Elder of Vermont, Jessica Tolmach of NY, Matt and Wife Paige Tolmach of CA, Great-Grandchildren Leo and Dylan Elder, Nicholas and Zachery Plett and Jackson Tolmach; sisters Evelyn Brittingham of Norfolk, VA and Orene Hopkins of Albuquerque, NM.
