Gordon A. “Bill” Conaway, Jr., age 75, of Sykesville, passed peacefully after an extensive battle with cancer on Thursday, July 28, 2016, at Brinton Woods Health Care Center, Sykesville, MD.
He was born May 29, 1941 on the farm in Sykesville, MD, the son of the late Gordon Andrew Conaway, Sr. and the late Ida Louise Conaway.
He was the 3rd generation farmer of the farm that has been in the family for nearly 100 years; supporter of Carroll County 4H, owner and operator of Conaway Masonry for 40 years; he was a lifetime member of Brandenburg U.M. Church, Howard County Iron Bridge Hounds and Taylorsville Hunt Club. He enjoyed spending his time on the farm with his dog, Brutus and meeting with his buddies for meals.
Surviving are son Augustus Andrew Conaway and wife Heather Nicole Ables of Mt. Airy, grandchildren Graden Andrew and Colson Michael; sisters Joan Marie Griffith of Beaufort, SC and Debra Ann Dailey and husband Michael of Vancouver, WA; sister in law Carolyn Marie (Carr) Conaway; niece Jennifer Carol Conaway Kemp and husband Mark Aaron; nephew James Charles Conaway, Jr. and wife Staci Michelle Pittinger; and great nephew Garrett Douglas and great nieces Emily Louise, Madelyn Rose, Lily Jameson and Grace Olivia that know him as POP.; predeceased by brother James Charles Conaway, Sr.; and brother in law John Griffith.
Friends and family may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Sykesville (Beside South Carroll High School) on Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM and on Monday 9:00-10AM at the church; Funeral Service will be held, Monday, August 1, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Brandenburg U.M. Church, 6050 Old Washington Road, Sykesville, MD, with Pastor John Bragg officiating.
