Herman C. Sirk, Sr., age 94, of Woodbine, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at the Carroll Hospice-Dove House in Westminster, MD., he was surrounded by family and friends.
Herman was born on June 3, 1923 in West Virginia the son of the late Willis Sirk and the late Sarah Delaughter Sirk. He later moved to Maryland where he called home. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945. He married Ethel Martha Sirk (nee Lefever) on July 11, 1970. They were side by side for 47 wonderful years. After marrying Ethel they would become foster parents to over 70 children. Herman was a devoted father and grandfather, and great great grandfather. He was self-employed for over 60 years. He was a jack of all trades. He was a block/brick layer, installed septic systems, grave digger and farmer. He enjoyed his cattle, chickens and most of all he enjoyed his dogs. Herman enjoyed the outdoors. He loved to go fishing; He also attended several different churches over the years.
Herman is survived by his 5 children; Herman C. Sirk, Jr. and wife Betty of Woodbine, Jeffrey J. Sirk and wife Tammy of Damascus, Carolyn Sirk Williams of Woodbine, Regina M. Turner and husband Dominick of Woodbine, John B. Sirk and wife Christina of Ellicott City.; grandchildren, J.T. Williams, Kari Sirk, Donna Kimmble, David, Daniel, Darren, Donald, Dana Sirk; 10 great grandchildren, Ayana, Jahquan, Alora, Marcus, Russell, Reed, Mairick, Stephanie Lynn, Kristian, and Secria. He was preceded in death by a foster son Elmer Wheeler, Jr. and 2nd wife Ethel M. Sirk; and 5 brothers and 6 sisters.
Friends may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Sykesville, MD (Beside South Carroll High School) on Thursday from 6-9 PM; where Funeral Service will be held Friday, August 11, 2017 at 11:00 AM with Rev. William “Bill” Phebus officiating.
Interment Montgomery U.M. Church Cemetery, 28201 Kemptown Road, Damascus, MD.
