Ida Famoso (nee Gaetana Mangione) born in lower Manhattan on July 24, 1928 to Sicilian immigrant parents passed away on March 28, 2018. She would tell anyone who asked that her life actually began when she met and married her late husband Alfonso in 1947. She was a wife and mother who loved her family above all else. She even moved out of her beloved New York City to be a caregiver for her grandchildren. When her husband Alfonso passed away in 2015 she was lost. When her eldest and only son Al, Jr also predeceased her in January of 2017 she was ready to go. She had to live without her Alfonso for 3 long years and without her nightly phone calls from her son for over a year. She kept busy knitting blankets for everyone she could and chatting on the phone with her best friend Ann Pitzer who still lives in New York City. Her mind was sharp and she was stronger than she thought she was. She spent most of her time taking care of her family up through and until shortly before her death. She is survived by her two daughters, Christine (Steve) Lopez and Ann (Bill) Garczynski, her grandchildren, Margaret (Marc) Erpenbeck, Steve (Laura) Lopez, Christopher (Maria) Lopez, Nicholas and David, and great grandchildren, Mason, Marshall and Henry. Funeral arrangements by Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, P.A. Interment at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Gilchrest Center Hospice in Towson or Columbia.
