Irene Wroten

Irene L. Wroten (nee Pahl), age 91, of Frederick formerly of Baltimore, died, Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Homewood Nursing Home in Frederick, MD.
She was born July 23, 1921 in Baltimore, MD the daughter of the late Albert Pahl and the late Louise A. Pahl Dinsmore (nee Kurtz).
She retired from the Baltimore County Board of Education where she served for 22 years as a cafeteria manager. She was a past president of Baltimore County Board of Education Food service Employees.
She grew up and resided in Woodlawn until 2000 when she moved to Homewood at Crumland Farms in Frederick. She was a member of the first 50 to live at Homewood while there she became very involved in water aerobics, manning the country store and the unofficial seamstress for Homewood. She used her sewing skills to help the residents and staff. She especially enjoyed her nightly card games with her special group of friends that she met at Homewood.
While in high school, a group of church choir members formed a social club that has continued to meet once a month for over 70 years. In the later years the “girls” including their husbands enjoyed many trips throughout the years.
Irene was a member of the Woodlawn chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and she was very active in her church her entire life.
She was the wife of the late Melvin F. Wroten, Sr. who died in 1977.
She was the mother of Melvin F. Wroten, Jr. and wife Carol of Woodbine, and Louise I. Green and husband Jack of Ocala, FL.
Loving Grandchildren- Mike & Laura Wroten, Dan & Patra Wroten, Rebecca Green, Kenneth & Celia Green, Jason Green, Cynthia & Andrew Baxley, Frank, Scott, and Dawn Williams, great grandchildren Alex & Violet Baxley, Jacob, Luke, Chase and Ryleigh Williams.
Friends may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Sykesville (Beside South Carroll High School) on Wednesday from 3-5 & 7-9 PM.
Funeral Service will be on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Ebenezer U.M. Church, 4901 Woodbine Road, Sykesville, with the Rev. Judy Emerson of Ebenezer U.M. Church in Sykesville officiating.
Interment and Graveside Service at Woodlawn Cemetery (Liberty Road side) at 2:30 PM (Everyone to meet at cemetery).
