Jack S. Balick, 81, of Randallstown, MD passed away on May 8, 2020 after a long illness.

Born in Wilmington, DE, to the late Louis and Pauline Balick, Jack graduated from P.S. Dupont High School, then continued his education at University of Delaware obtaining a BA Degree in Political Science. After graduating, he worked at Social Security Administration as a Management Analyst for 45 years until retiring in 2007. While working at Social Security, he met and married Diana, his beloved wife of 55 years. Jack took pride in his 3 children, adored his granddaughter and loved his family fully and unconditionally.

As the youngest of 3 sons, Jack grew up working alongside his brothers in their family corner store in Wilmington. Those years instilled in him the focus and importance on family which he carried thru his lifetime. During the early family years, his free time would be spent playing with his children or using his talents to build a screened in porch, lay floor tiles, or any number of smaller projects to enhance the family home.

Jack battled thru devastating injuries from a car accident, eventually returning to work at the amazement of the doctors who had admitted him. After successfully fighting soft tissue sarcoma and reaching the 10-year mark, his doctor excitedly shook Jack’s hand, celebrating the survivor status with him. He faced his battles with courage and strength, never once voicing a complaint. He was referred to as a true gentleman.

In retirement years, some of the activities he enjoyed the most were challenging his mind with crossword puzzles, watching movies or golf tournaments, and reading the latest novel. He loved to read! On many occasions he would chuckle out loud while reading and excitedly share passages.

From his earliest beginnings, he learned about family and community which he carried throughout his life. In addition to providing for his family, Jack and Diana found ways to serve the community at Mt Olive UMC in Randallstown, MD and Wards Chapel UMC in Randallstown, MD making lifelong friendships in the process.

Jack is survived by his wife Diana and children Todd Balick of Orlando, FL, Julie and husband Tom Keller of Westminster, MD, and Karen Balick of Winfield, MD. He was the adored grandfather of Brianna Balick of Glen Burnie, MD.

Cherished brother of Sidney Balick and the late Marvin Balick; also survived by nieces and nephews Lisa Balick, Ken Balick, Heidi Savitch and Howard Balick.

A private graveside ceremony will be held on Wednesday, May 13th at 9am officiated by Pastor Steven Cho of Wards Chapel United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Lakeview Memorial Park, Sykesville, MD.

In memory of Jack’s belief of providing for family and helping the community, those desiring may make contributions to a local charity or food bank of choice.
