Jack Currence Profile Photo
Jack (Dick) Currence peacefully passed away on Monday, August 19, 2024, at the age of 76 surrounded by his family. Dick was born on July 27, 1948, in Lexington, KY, the son of the late Jack Harold Currence and the late Frances Blandine Currence (nee Moore). Dick was hard-working and ambitious, spending much of his professional career in the construction industry with a focus on concrete construction. His career was interrupted by a 2-year stint serving in the Army Infantry in the Vietnam War. He ended his military career with a rank of E-4 Specialist. Dick went on to establish his own business, Currence Construction Company, which built several prominent buildings across Maryland including, but not limited to, The TownMall of Westminster (formerly Cranberry Mall), the Towson Towers (part of Towson University), and the Hoover Library at McDaniel College. Dick was the proud captain of the “Sugar Bear” and undoubtedly treasured his time fishing in the Chesapeake Bay, as well as deep-sea fishing trips with his friends and family. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren who brought him much happiness and joy. They were truly the loves of his life and he cherished every moment with them. He is survived by his wife, Sandra; son Thomas, grandsons Mason and Trevor; son Robert; son Christopher, wife Elizabeth, grandsons Cooper and Dylan, granddaughter Amelia (Millie); brother Bruce, wife Annette; brother Steven; sisters Lynn Proudfoot and Jane Currence; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed. The family would like to extend their gratitude and thanks to all the doctors, nurses, and staff at Carroll Hospital, especially those in the Critical Care Unit. The family would also like to extend their appreciation and thanks to the doctors, nurses, and volunteers at BridgingLife Hospice Care. A small gathering will be held at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home on Sunday, August 25th from 2:00 to 4:00. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to BridgingLife Hospice Care, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD 21157 (https://lifebridgehealth.org/giving/bridginglife).
