James Edward Johnson Sr. was born February 22, 1922 in Washington, D.C. to the late James R. Johnson and Rhoda Frazier Johnson. He peacefully departed on December 28, 2014 at his home at age 92 of natural causes.
He was educated in the Montgomery County Public School System. He was a farmer all of his adult life and supplemented by doing janitorial service.
He was married to the late Pauline (Johnson) Johnson who passed September 2002. In March 1966 they sold their small farm in Gaithersburg, Montgomery County, MD and purchased a dairy farm in New Windsor, MD. During that time he received many awards.
He retired from farming in 1978 and worked as a janitor at Black & Decker in Hampstead, and was affectionately known as the greeter at the New Windsor Post Office and finally retired at age 89.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane; a son, James E., Jr.; a brother, Sterling Frazier and sister Pauline Johnson Nickens. He leaves to mourn a daughter, Deborah Burroughs; sons Gary Johnson and wife Darlene; Steven Johnson; daughter in law Deborah Lynch, Two Aunts Annie Frazier; Florence Gaither; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Friends may call on Monday, January 5, 2015 from 10:00am-11:00AM at Goshen U.M. Church, 19615 Goshen Road, Gaithersburg, MD 20879 at which time Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 AM with Rev. Shawn M. Wilson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the New Windsor Fire Company, Carroll Humane Society or the local Alzheimer’s Association. At his request he will be cremated and inurnment will be private.
