Jimmie Wilhoit
May 14, 1941 — June 23, 2015
Jimmie “Jim” J. Wilhoit, 74, of New Windsor, MD died peacefully at Carroll Hospice Dove House surrounded by his loving family after a long illness. Born May 14, 1941 in Greeneville, TN., he was the youngest son of Glenn C. Wilhoit and Ada Bell Wilhoit (nee Smith). He was the beloved and devoted husband of Judith E. Wilhoit (nee Cross).
Survived by his daughters Lisa Wilhoit McCormick and husband, Corwyn (Corky) of San Diego, CA and Jennifer L. Bimestefer of Westminster, MD.
Surviving is his older brother, William Samuel Wilhoit and his wife of Owings Mills, MD and his brother-in-law, Lawrence Allan Cross and sister-in-law, Deanna Cross of Mt. Laurel, NJ.
In addition to his two daughters, he is survived by the loves of his life, his four grandchildren of Westminster and one grand-dog of San Diego: Meghan Christine, 20; Lindsay Nicole, 18; Brandon Michael, 14; Lauren Brooke, 9; and grand-dog, Gabi.
Jim was a 1959 graduate of Franklin High School. He lived and worked at River Valley Ranch for 2 years as a teenager. He and his family were a vital part of that ministry from the beginning in1954. He loved riding horses and competing in the rodeos every summer. He also taught his 4 grandchildren how to ride the horses that he owned, Chief, Fancy, Lacy, and Duchess. He was instrumental in managing the construction of Arlington Baptist Church in Windsor Mill as it stands today. He was a long-time member of this church. After moving to Carroll County, he became a member of Church of the Open Door in Westminster.
For 32 1/2 years, Jim worked as a project manager for J. Vinton Schafer, a construction company in Abington, MD, where he built schools in Howard County, MD in the years before his retirement in 2011. Jim enjoyed the farm life and everything about it: planting and harvesting the fruits of his vegetable garden, milking cows at a local dairy farm, trail riding on his horses, building a barn to house his chickens, and tending to his goats. He and Judy were passionate about spreading God's Word through Southern Gospel music.
During the three years in which he braved cancer, it was obvious that the illness could take his body but not his love of God, his sweet smile, or his loving, giving and determined spirit. He was a model husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was the epitome of quiet strength and was always a walking-talking testimony of a Godly man. To his rodeo friends, he was a skilled horseman; to his hunting buddies, he was Marshall Matt Dillon; to his family, he was a hero. He leaves a legacy of love, wisdom, and strength.
The Family will receive friends on Friday June 26, 2015 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM at BURRIER-QUEEN FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 27, 2015 11 AM at Arlington Baptist Church, 3030 N. Rolling Rd. Windsor Mill, MD 21224.
