John Shipley Barnes, 78 of Westminster MD passed away August 22, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family. John was the beloved husband of the late Gloria Fay Barnes and is survived by his devoted companion Judy Waters. John was born April 14, 1943 in Baltimore, MD to Augustus “Gus” and Bernice Barnes. In 1973 John opened his own business, JB Liquors in Mt. Airy MD. In 1989, he and his son Darren purchased House of Liquors in Westminster, MD. John loved going to work and spending time with his employees and customers. John was a very disciplined man with an amazing work ethic. He worked hard to provide for his family. John enjoyed meeting up with friends and family for happy hour, sharing laughs, reminiscing and making new memories. He loved to travel and spend time at his beach condo with his family and friends.
John was a 57 year member of the Elks Lodge of Westminster 2277.
He was the devoted father of Darren Barnes of Westminster, Cindy Barnes and partner Jason McCullough of Westminster and former daughter-in-law Laura Barnes.
John was the proud grandfather of Abby Ebaugh and husband Luke, Jessica Wong and husband Logan, Taylor Gray and husband Charlton, Mitchell Barnes and Emilee Barnes. Devoted Great-grandfather of Olivia and Daniel Ebaugh and future great-grandson Charlton Weston Gray.
He was preceded in death by his brother Jeff Barnes.
The Family will receive friends at BURRIER-QUEEN FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, P.A, 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD (beside S. Carroll High) on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. Where Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, August 26, 2021, at 11 AM, Service will be live streamed starting at 10:50 AM.
