John H. Foertschbeck, Jr. 57, of Woodbine, MD, passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2023. He was born September 30, 1965, in Baltimore, MD, the son of John H. Foertschbeck, Sr. and Josephine A. Foertschbeck (nee Erauth). Beloved husband of Terry Lynn Foertschbeck, who preceded him in death.
He is survived by his daughters Alexandra Foertschbeck and Lindsay(Purcell) Wolfe and her husband Adam, and his beloved dog Francesca. He was a devoted brother to Katherine (Katie) M. Darago, Lisa A. Rhodes and her husband Bennett, and Frank J. Foertschbeck, and his wife Vicki. He was the proud uncle of Mary Jo (Darago) Winpisinger and her husband Michael; Steven M. Darago, Jr., Bennett L. Rhodes, Jackson L. Rhodes, Elizabeth (Fuller) Gilbert and her husband Tim, and Michael Fuller.
John was a Senior I.T. Consultant with the SSA for almost 30 years. He received many special achievement awards at SSA. He was an avid soccer fan, and loved all sports, as well as gardening and traveling. He attended Mt. Airy Elementary and Middle School, was a graduate of Mt. St. Joseph High School and attended UMBC, where he excelled in Math, Computer Science, and German. He was fluent in German and traveled to Germany on several occasions making many friends there (in Solingen and Hannover, as well as Neufang, the hometown of his great-great grandparents). John and his family loved the beaches around Charleston, SC, and spent many summer vacations in that area. He also enjoyed playing billiards and won several championships while attending UMBC. He was a friend to many and will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A. 1212 West Old Liberty Road Sykesville, MD 21784 (next to South Carroll High School) on Friday, September 22, 2023, from 6-8 PM.
A Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at 11 AM at St. Michaels Catholic Church, located at 1125 Saint Michaels Rd, Mount Airy, MD 21771. Inurnment will follow at St. Michaels Cemetery.
