John "Jack" Thorn Lyburn Jr, 76, of Manchester, passed away at home on Monday, August 14th. Born September 15, 1946, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late John T. Lyburn Sr. and Miriam Inez Lyburn. He was the husband of Patricia Connolly White Lyburn.
In his early life, Jack attended college at University of Baltimore while working at Pantry Pride, served his country as a sailor in the Navy, and was a competitive speed skater and marathoner. Though born in Baltimore, Jack found a home with his late wife Elaine Rea Lyburn in Carroll County. Together they raised three children, built a home and gathering place for their family and friends, and embedded themselves in work and service in and around Westminster. Jack worked as a commercial real estate developer for Manekin Corporation and Kline, Scott Visco before serving as the Director of Economic Development for Carroll County up until days before his death. Jack was a dedicated advocate for expanding business and development in Carroll County while preserving its history through his work at the Carroll County Farm Museum. He was an active and awarded member of the Westminster and Frederick Rotary Clubs. He was an avid golfer and member of the Piney Branch Golf Club; enjoyed Baltimore sports teams, particularly the Baltimore Ravens; and loved attending school and sporting events for his grandchildren. In addition, he had a passion for music, attending live concerts in his community and across venues big and small in Maryland as well as educating his children on the finer points of mid-1900’s motown, pop, and rock music. Jack often sought relaxation at Deep Creek Lake, enjoying time on his boat and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and friends.
Surviving besides his wife Patricia, are his daughter and son-in-law Rachel and Shawn Anglemyer of Westminster; son and daughter-in-law Andrew Lyburn and Sarah Talamantez-Lyburn of Towson; son Bryan Lyburn of Herndon, VA; his beloved grandchildren Savannah and Kyle Anglemyer, Easton Talamantez-Lyburn, and Anna Lyburn; and his brother Roger Lyburn of Selbyville, DE.
