John Messner

On Saturday John E. Messner, Sr 89 of Mt. Airy, MD formerly of Ellicott City died Saturday September 12, 2009 at Gilchrist Hospice, Towson, MD. He was the husband of Elizabeth Slagle Messner and the late Virginia Amelia Eckles Messner. Mr. Messner was born August 23, 1920 in Baltimore, MD the son of the late William Casper Messner, Sr. and the late Lucy Ruth Ellis Messner. Mr. Messner was an engineer for the Naval Ordinance Lab in White Oak, MD He enjoyed woodworking and had toy, stamp, coin and antique collections. He was a dedicated member of Calvary Lutheran Church a Life Member of American Legion Gold Star Post 191 Mt. Airy, MD and VFW Post 7472 Ellicott City, MD . Mr. Messner also served in the US Army. Surviving in addition to his wife are his children , Janet Sue and husband Michael Hahn of Ellicott City, Joyce Dawn and husband Charles Schwinabart of Milton, DE, daughter-in-law Joan Messner of Ocean City, MD. Step-Children Ellen Hill Kilby of Sykesville, Patti and husband Fred Cannaday of Mt. Airy, Chris and wife Jen Hill of Thurmont, Nephew William Casper Messner, III. Grandchildren Michael Todd and John Michael Messner, David C Roles and Megan K. Beazley. Step-grandchildren Scott Kilby, Beth Schwartz, Laura Keefer, Dan and Brian Cannaday. Great –granddaughter Maggie Messner. Preceded in death by Son the late John E. Messner, Jr Friends may call on Monday September 14, 2009 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784. Funeral Services will take place on Tuesday September 15, 2009 11 AM at Calvary Lutheran Church 16151 Old Frederick Rd. Mt. Airy, MD 21771. Interment St. Johns Cemetery, Ellicott City, MD. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Calvary Lutheran Church Building Fund.
