Kenneth Eugene Pickett died on Thursday January 23, 2025; in the same Woodbine farmhouse he was born in on July 5, 1935. He died of natural causes at age 89. He was the second son of Harvey Russell Pickett and Bertha Kirk (Reter) Pickett. He graduated from Sykesville High School in 1953 then served in the US Army from 1955-1957, then returned to help run the family farm. He married his wife, Sharon Lea Linton of Mt. Airy, on May 14, 1961, and the couple took up residence back on the farm. They raised two daughters, Kimberly Ellen Bradshaw and Dawn Michele Leijon.
Together with his wife, Ken ran Frederick Office Supply for 25 years. He was a member of the Frederick Elks, the Frederick Rotary Club, and Prudence Lodge #190 of the Masons. He was a past board member of The Frederick County Vocational School and Goodwill Industries, and he attended Prospect United Methodist Church in Mt. Airy. He generously supported many organizations and causes over the years.
In his time off, Ken enjoyed repairing things on the farm, woodworking, and occasional fishing trips on the Chesapeake Bay. He restored a 1930's Farmall F12 tractor which he donated in 2018 to the Carroll County Farm Museum, where it is featured in their wormseed oil display.
In addition to his wife, two daughters and son-in-law Marten Leijon, he is survived by five grandchildren, Andrew Bradshaw, Brandon Bradshaw (Cassie), Lukas Leijon, Edvin Leijon and Linnea Leijon; great-granddaughter AnaLisa Bradshaw; sisters-in-law Pat Pickett, Sandy Holmes, Diann Linton and Sue Spencer; and brothers-in-law Pat Holmes, Jimmy Linton and Wayne Spencer; plus numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his only brother, Elwood Pickett.
The family will receive friends at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, in Sykesville, from 1:30 - 5:30pm on Sunday, January 26, 2025, and from 10 -10:30 am on Monday, January 27, 2025, until the start of the service at 10:30 am.
Interment at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, followed by a luncheon at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 4901 Woodbine Road.
