Leland Compton

Leland J. Compton, Sr., age 79, of Mt. Airy, MD, died Monday, September 24, 2012 at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster, MD. He was born February 17, 1933 in Augusta, West Virginia the son of Arvella J. Haines (nee Ruckman) and the late Loring Jackson Compton; and foster parents the late Melvin and Otie Smith. He was the husband of Hazel M. Compton of Mt. Airy of 58 years. He was an Electrical Engineer for Westinghouse Company and retired as Sales Manager of Pro Force Company. He was a member of the Naval Air Force Reserves for 8 years. He enjoyed wood working and golfing, and having parties. He enjoyed being with people and his family. He was an active member of the Carroll County Senior Center and Past President of the Carroll County Billiards League. He was the father of Toni M. Archer and husband Jim, Leland J. Compton, Jr. and former wife Debra Wagner and Robin P. Schneider and husband Jim. Brother of Carolyn J. Sibert. Grandfather of Chelsea Davenport and husband Brian, Wills Archer IV, Leland J. Compton III and wife Dawn, Christopher J. Compton, Sarah E. Schneider and Joshua Schneider, also survived by great grandchild Lavinia June Compton. Memorial Service will be held Thursday, September 27, 2012 at 1:00 PM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield (Beside South Carroll High School) with Pastor Art Monroe officiating. Private inurnment. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Humane Society of Carroll County, Inc. 2517 Littlestown Pike, Westminster, MD 21158 or favorite charity of choice.
