Lena Ballard

Lena Finch Ballard, 80, of Ellicott City , died Wednesday, July 29, 2009 . Born November 4, 1928 , in Morgan County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Thelma (Jones) Finch. She was the wife of the late Quentin L. Ballard. Dr. Ballard dedicated her professional life as an educator to the well being of children. She taught every grade from Kindergarten through high school, served as principal, supervisor of teachers, and adjunct professor. Locally, she worked as a reading specialist in Potomac , Maryland for the Montgomery County Public School System and later for the Baltimore County Public School System where she served as reading specialist at Johnnycake Middle School until retiring in 1991. Surviving in addition to her daughter, Alicia B. Ballard, are her siblings Alberta Hutchinson, June Finch, Alma Hutchinson, James Finch, Lloyd Finch, David Finch, George Finch, Jr., Phillip Finch, and Douglas Finch, as well as her many nieces and nephews. Her funeral will be held on August 5, 2009 , at the Potter Funeral Home in West Liberty , KY. 606-743-3105. A memorial service will be held for Dr. Ballard at Bethany United Methodist Church in Ellicott City on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 , at 1:00 p.m. 410-465-2919.
