On Saturday, June 3, 2023, LeRoy Koontz, 95 of Winfield, MD passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at home on the same property where he was born on March 10, 1928, the son of the late Thomas Koontz and the late Mabel Koontz (nee Simms).
He was the beloved husband of Edith Koontz (nee Perez) for 72 years.
LeRoy graduated from Mt. Airy High School and then joined the Merchant Marines in 1945 until his retirement. During his service he continued his education to advance his career. He graduated from Sheep Heads Bay Academy, then onto the Maritime Institute to further his education.
He traveled the world during his career from Africa, Europe, South America, to Asia. During the Vietnam conflict he traveled to bring supplies to Korea and our troops. This was his calling from a country boy to a Worldwide traveler.
After retirement he returned to his family in Carroll County where he gardened, continued traveling, painting, woodworking and enjoying life.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children Sherry Resch & husband Bob, Susan Pajak & husband Milton, Wayne Koontz & wife Sandy, and Brian Koontz. Grandfather of Bobby Resch, Jessica Resch, Lauren Stroup, Rachael Koontz, DJ Doody, and Eric Koontz; great-grandfather of Jacqueline Miles, Nathaniel Miles, Lexi Pajak, Levi Pajak, Ava Stroup, Bella Pajak, Ryleigh Koontz and Adalyn Koontz and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by daughter Dana Koontz, grandchildren Mackie Pajak and Adam Pajak.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 8, 2023, from 11:30 AM -12:30 PM at which time the funeral service will begin at 12:30 PM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A. 1212 West old Liberty Road Sykesville, MD 21784 (Beside South Carroll High School).
Interment is Private.
