Lillian Beatrice Saunders, affectionately known as Lilly Belle to her children, transitioned peacefully to her eternal home on Sunday, April 13, 2025.
The beloved wife of the late Charles Lee Saunders.
Born on September 21, 1940, in Derwood, MD, the daughter of the late Raymond and Anita Hungerford (nee Brown).
Lillian was a devoted member of the Mt. Airy Full Gospel Church for over sixty years. She enjoyed serving in the nursing home ministry and attending the Adult Sunday School class. Lillian was a prayer warrior and foot soldier for Christ, faithfully sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with everyone she encountered. Her faith guided her through life and propelled her as she lovingly cared for her family, friends, and even strangers. She served those in the community in numerous ways, particularly through visiting and uplifting those who were sick and shut in. Lillian was passionate about the upkeep of her home and yard, reading, and writing heartfelt poems.
Lillian is survived by her cherished children, Charles Saunders, Cynthia Myers (husband Kevin), and Stephanie Saunders. She took immense pride in her role as a grandmother to eight beloved grandchildren: Nathaniel (Shelvon), Tavon, Eric, Sieara, Alicia (Chris), Kevin II (Kathryn), Jannel, and Jayden; as well as fifteen beloved great-grandchildren. Lillian is also survived by her loving siblings, sisters: Mary Hopkins, Margaret Beckwith, and Ada Franklin; brothers: Johnnie Hungerford and Robert Hungerford; four sisters-in-law, four brothers-in-law, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind many friends and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Francis Hungerford, and sisters, Angela Powell and Shirley Lancaster, in eternal rest.
A visitation to honor her life will take place on Friday, April 25, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, followed by a Funeral Service starting at 10:00 AM, all held at Mt. Airy Full Gospel Church, located at 13949 Penn Shop Road, Mount Airy, MD 21771.
Graveside Service at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 U.S. 15, Frederick, MD 21703, at 2:00 PM.
