Beloved Father/Baa, Madan Raj Tamrakar, died peacefully at the age of 84 on Friday, September 10th, 2021 in his home surrounded by his family members in Silver Spring, MD.
He was born on January 2, 1937 in Lalitpur, Kathmandu, Nepal, to Asta Raj Tamrakar and Chandra Kumari Tamrakar. He received his Bachelor of Arts in History from Tribhuvan University and also completed Health Assistant training school, where he decided to dedicate his life to helping others. He worked as a Health Assistant and field worker in the rural areas of Nepal to assist in the administration of vaccines against typhoid, cholera, and smallpox. A few years later, he received a prestigious opportunity to work under his Majesty’s Government of Nepal to assist in running the health care center. This experience led him to receive a job at the American Embassy in the medical unit where he worked until September of 1988.
He arrived in Silver Spring, MD, USA in October of 1988. After his arrival in the USA, he furthered his education in the healthcare field and became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). He worked at The Washington Home in Washington, D.C. until he retired in January of 2002. He loved playing cards with his family and friends, and as a retirement gift from his family, he and his wife, Muna Tamrakar, enjoyed a vacation is Las Vegas, NV. This was one of his most memorable trips.
He was also a respected and prominent member of the Nepali community in the USA. He was a founding member and the Thakali (the most senior member) of Nepa Guthi. He was also Life Member of the Nepa Pasa Pucha Amerikaye (NPPA).
Madan loved nothing more than spending time with his family and friends. His charismatic and jovial personality left a positive impression on everyone he met.
