Madelon Eleanor Abate (nee Gurriell), of Westminster, MD, died on Wednesday, August 27, 2014, at the age of 78. Originally from Paterson, NJ, she was a long-time resident of Hawthorne, NJ and lived the last 17 years of her life in Westminster, MD. Madelon was one of the three children of Jessie and Edward Gurriell. She is survived by her daughter, Vicky Abate Spitalniak, son-in-law Mark Spitalniak, and granddaughter, Laura Spitalniak of Westminster, MD and her twin brother Edward Gurriell of Hawthorne, NJ. She was predeceased by her sister, Jean Thompson. Madelon was a graduate of Eastside High School in Paterson, NJ. Prior to her retirement she was employed by the Public Service Electric and Gas Company in NJ for over 30 years. Madelon was an avid animal lover, enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and spending time with her family and friends and with her cats.
Gathering of family and friends will be held Sunday, August 31, 2014 at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield (Beside South Carroll High School) from 2:00-3:00 PM; Funeral Service will begin at 3:00 PM with Rev. Chuck Shacochis officiating.
