Marcia Jean Higgins Dennis of Westminster, MD
Marcia Dennis formerly of Dover, DE passed away peacefully on June 6, 2021, after a long series of illnesses, near her home in Westminster, MD. Marcia was born in Quincy, MA on July 7, 1950, to Wilbur “Bill” C. and Louise N. Johnston Higgins. Marcia moved to Delaware with her family when her father’s job with The Walter Baker Chocolate Co. was transferred to the then General Foods plant in Dover in 1964. Despite moving from Massachusetts at an early age, Marcia never lost her wicked Boston accent.
Marcia attended Caesar Rodney High School where she was a majorette in the marching band. Marcia spent the majority of her life in Dover, where she raised her family. In the 1970’s Marcia was director of Kent County D.I.A.L, a hotline for substance abuse. Over the years she tended bar at many Dover establishments, including The Elks Club, The Hungry Pelican, and the Blue Coat Inn. Marcia was a fun-loving person who made everyone she came in contact with feel special. In addition to her parents, Marcia was predeceased by her older brother Alan Higgins, who died on the USS Liberty of 1967. Marcia is survived by her husband, Clyde “Tom” Dennis, of Dover; son Michael Cornell (Paul Henning) of Annapolis, MD and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; daughter Sandra Foote (Keith) of Westminster, MD; brothers David Higgins (Suzanne) of Weymouth, MA and Irish-twin Gary Higgins (Joan) of Newark, DE; granddaughters Rachael Foote De Marchi (Luigi) and Nicole Foote all of Tampa, FL; nieces and nephews Janelle Higgins Wilkes (JR), Nathan Higgins, Amy Higgins (Joanna), Noah Higgins (Libby), and Alan Higgins. Marcia loved when the whole family came together.
A Memorial Service is planned for Monday, July 5, 2021 12 Pm to 1 PM at BURRIER-QUEEN FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd.
