Marcus B. Pickett, 98, of Winfield, Maryland, also resided in Boynton Beach, FL and Grand Rapids, MI for a time, died on Wed., March 7, 2012 at Lorien Assisted Living Facility in Mount Airy, MD. He was the oldest of three sons born to Oliver and Cora Pickett on July 23, 1913. He was the spouse of Leona Gaver Pickett for 43 years as well as Anne Hoek-Pickett for 27 years. Marcus retired from the Maryland Department of Motor Vehicles after more than 30 years of service. He served in the US Army during WW2 and was honorably discharged in 1946. After he retired he remained active in many clubs and organizations as well as served as Judge of the Orphans Court in Carroll County for several terms. Predeceased by both of his wives as well as his youngest daughter, Jane Shipley Whittington, he is survived by his son, David, and wife (Ellen), daughter, Judith Morgan and husband (Edward), seven grandchildren (Gregory Morgan, Mitchell Morgan, Lisa Piecewicz, Clint Shipley, Jennifer Rose, Joanne Harkness, Kevin Pickett) and ten great grandchildren (Connor, Logan, Luke, Olivia, Ryan, Kristian, Benjamin, Bradley, Alexander and Mia). Services will be held at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home in Winfield, Maryland (http://www.burrier-queen.com/). Viewing will be on March 12, 2012 from 3pm to 5pm and 7pm to 9pm; services the next day at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home at 11am, with Rev. Judy Emerson officiating. He will be laid to rest in Ebenezer Methodist Church cemetery next to his wife, Leona, with daughter, parents and other family members and friends nearby.
