Margaret T. Guynn (nee Hurst), age 87, of Woodbine, died Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at Carroll Hospice, Inc.-Dove House in Westminster,MD.
She was born October 1, 1925 in Carroll County, VA the daughter of the late Jesse Crockett Hurst and the late Margaree Earline Lindsey Hurst.
She was an Industrial Therapy Counselor for Springfield State Hospital. She was a member and very active of Calvary Lutheran Church in Mt. Airy and she served on many committees and sang in the choir. She was the Carroll County Outstanding Woman of the Year presented by the Soroptimist International of Westminster on April 18, 1994. She loved flowers and gardening, and traveling and camping around the country with her husband. She was a member of the Southern States Board. She was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary at Springfield State Hospital Center after her retirement. She moved from Wytheville, VA to Carroll County, Maryland with her husband in 1949. She enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and friends.
She was the wife of the late Riley Howard Guynn.
She was the mother of Margaret Anne and Alan Fink of Westminster, Eveline Kay and George Shipley of Woodbine, and the late Jesse Howard “Jay” Guynn and the late David Wayne Guynn.
Sister of Helen Andrews of Wytheville, VA, and Carroll Montgomery of Wytheville, VA.
Predeceased by several brothers and sisters.
Grandchildren: Jerome Guynn, Sierra Guynn, Kimberly Hammer and husband Mike, Jason Shipley and wife Melissa, and Matthew Shipley.
Friends may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Sykesville (Beside South Carroll High School) on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Calvary Lutheran Church, 16151 Old Frederick Road, Mt. Airy with the Pastors Eric and Anke Deibler officiating.
Interment Crestlawn Memorial Gardens in Marriottsville, MD
