Marie Condon Pickett, 96, of Carroll Lutheran Village, and former longtime resident of Woodbine MD, died Friday, October 24, 2014 at Carroll Lutheran Village. She married the late E. Williar Pickett in the year 1940. Marie Pickett, daughter of the late Augustus David Condon and the late Viola Evans Condon, was born August 27, 1918 in Woodbine MD. Mrs. Pickett was a hairdresser following her graduation from Mt. Airy High school. Marie later became involved in the family business; Pickett’s Nursery, and also enjoyed being a florist. She was an active member of Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church in Woodbine, where she had taught Sunday school classes. She had also volunteered at numerous local hospitals. Marie was a member of the Berrett Grange. She was former Worthy Matron of the Prudence Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Marie enjoyed her free time with family and friends, sewing, baking, storytelling, crafts and puzzles, and bird watching.
Marie Pickett was the beloved mother of the late David W. Pickett, and his wife Eileen S. Pickett of Woodbine. Sister to Wilda Dell and husband the late Paul Dell, the late Louise Gross and husband Richard Gross, and the late Freda Condon. Her grandchildren include: Lisa Morgan and husband David Morgan, Eric Pickett, Jonathan Pickett, Jessica Wroten and husband Michael Wroten. Great-grandchildren were Nicholas Morgan, Heather Colson, Brandon Morgan, Cassandra Wroten, Christopher Wroten, and Savannah Wroten. Great-great-grandchildren Caleb Colson, Kaylee Colson, and Howard E. Colson III. Marie also had numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home, 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784. Funeral services will take place Wednesday October 29, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church, 16151 Old Fredrick Rd. Mount Airy, MD 21771. Interment to follow in Morgan Chapel Cemetery. Those desiring may make contributions to Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church or to Morgan Chapel Cemetery Fund.
