Mary Lois (Fleming) Coleman died Friday, February 22, 2013 with family and friends near. She is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Charlie Coleman of Baltimore; her son and daughter-in-law Michael and Susan Coleman of Charlottesville VA; her daughter and son-in-law Peggy and Pete Sunday of Hampstead MD; three grandchildren and their spouses Amanda and Ryan Robertson of Richmond VA; Joshua Sunday of Baltimore; and Jennifer and Davey Miller of Waynesboro, PA; and her adored great-grandson Gavin Miller. She was preceded in death by her brother Jimmy Fleming and her infant grandson Christopher Coleman. The family gratefully acknowledges the support of many friends and especially the care provided by the nursing staff of Augsburg Lutheran Home.
She was born in Salem, Illinois April 28, 1926 to Robert and Lola Fleming in a family poor in money but rich in love. In Danville Illinois, she met the boy next door and the love of her life, Charlie. Though War II separated them briefly, their love story carried them throughout the last half of the 20th century and well into the 21st century in Illinois, Texas, Indiana, and Maryland. Their devotion and love for each other are shining examples for their children and to all who knew them.
Her favorite roles were wife and mother but she also enthusiastically devoted many hours to volunteering for her churches and other organization, all of which had in common service to others. She had a deep and abiding faith that guided her all her life, which was demonstrated through her daily activities and her respect for all those she met. Her extensive collection of Nativities brought her much joy and she loved to display and share them with friends and family. Her family will remember her steadfast faith, her unconditional love, and her joys in their achievements, as well as her support during the difficult times.
Memorials may be sent to Milford Mill United Methodist Church, 915 Milford Mill Rd, Pikesville, MD 21208 or Augsburg Lutheran Home, 6811 Campfield Rd, Baltimore MD 21207.
