Mary Smith

Mary Constance Smith (nee Tomarchio) passed away on Friday, August 25, 2017. She was 92 years of age and a resident of Bright View Westminster Ridge. Mary was the beloved daughter of Italian immigrant parents, Sebastiano and Angela Tomarchio. Her parents first settled in Baltimore on East Proctor Street where Mary was born at home and was baptized at St. Leo’s in Little Italy. Mary was one of nine children.
Mary was an avid dancer throughout her life. For many years, she enjoyed the Famous Ballroom on Charles Street rarely missing a dance and making many friends there.
Mary resided in her home in the Villa Nova neighborhood of Baltimore County for over 60 years. A proud homeowner, she kept an immaculate home and enjoyed the flowering azaleas that bloomed every spring in her yard. A good baker, her cakes were always picture perfect. Mary worked for the SSA in Woodlawn until her retirement. She was a member of St. Charles Borromeo in Pikesville, MD
Mary is survived by her sisters Rose Tomarchio and Yolanda Groves, brother-in-law Stanley Groves and many nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by brothers Joseph and Alfio Tomarchio and sisters Frances DiSantostefano, Dina Strauss, Elena Cunningham and Joan Johnson. She was predeceased in 2015 by her longtime companion John Thompson.
Family will receive visitors at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A. 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784 on Monday, August 28, 2017 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. Catholic Prayer Service at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at 10 AM. Burial following at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
